Scholarship Opportunities List

The guidance office receives various scholarship offerings by mail each year. These scholarships will be posted online periodically and will be mailed home to parents of seniors in a newsletter. The due dates listed are from the previous year, but they tend to be consistent from year to year. They will be updated as they are received. Scholarship applications and additional details are available in the guidance office (or online if posted).
GENERAL
The Acorn Equality Fund is a not-for-profit grassroots organization that provides financial support for the advancement, education, health, and civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people and their allies in downstate Illinois. The Luke Scholarship is based on academic performance and need, and the Acorn Scholarship is based on academic performance, volunteerism, and advocacy. Awards range from $500 to $4,000.Applications must be postmarked by Friday, October 5, 2007.
The Amanda Schoon Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Tri-Point senior girl who exemplifies the scholar athlete. The award is for $500, and applicants will be judged on grades through the 3rd quarter of the senior year, extra-curricular activities, honors or other accomplishments, and a short essay. The deadline for application is May 5, 2008.
The American Legion Scholarship will be awarded by the American Legion and Auxiliary Skinner-Trost Post 122 to a graduating Tri-Point senior (applicants do not need to be related to an American Legion or Auxiliary member). Scholarship may be applied toward trade schools, colleges, or universities. The judging criteria will include financial need, grade point average and class rank, and extra-curricular and community involvement. Applications are available in the guidance office. The deadline for application is March 31, 2008
The American Legion provides 20 - $1,000 scholarships for children or grandchildren of current American Legion members. Applications available: December 15. Application deadline is March 15, 2008.
The American Legion Boy Scout Scholarship for $1,000 will be awarded to a Senior Boy Scout. The application deadline is April 30, 2008.
The American Legion Oratorical Contest will award scholarships to winning speech contestants. Applications available at Department Office PO Box 2910 in Bloomington.
The AMVETS
Scholarship Program offers several scholarships to
graduating seniors. More information is available at
www.ilamvets.org. All applications should be postmarked by March 1,
2008.
• The Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship is a one year
$3,000 scholarship for a student who has taken the ACT or SAT.
• The Junior ROTC $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student
who has participated in the Junior ROTC program
• The Trade School $3,000 Scholarship will be awarded to a senior
who has been accepted into a pre-approved trade school program.
• The Ladies Auxiliary Memorial $500 Scholarship will be awarded to
a child or grandchild of a veteran who served after 1940.
• The Ladies Auxiliary Worchid Scholarship will be awarded to a
child of a deceased father or mother who was a veteran. They need
not have been killed in action or died as a result of a
service-connected disability.
Best Buy awards scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,500. This year 1,500 students will be selected to receive awards of $1,500 each. An additional 51 students will receive awards of $10,000 each. Qualified Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community service or work experience. The Burger King Corporation offers $1000 scholarships to applicants who have a minimum GPA of 2.50, work an average of 15 hours per week, participate in community service and/or co-curricular activities, obtain a letter of recommendation from their principal and employer, and demonstrate financial need. The John Cannon Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound applicant who has demonstrated exceptional talent as a creator of video programming as well as outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in a highly competitive field. The scholarship is distributed over a four-year period with $10,000 awarded prior to the first year of study. Application forms can be downloaded at www.emmyonline.tv/foundation/scholarship.html. The application deadline is November 5, 2007.
The Chorale 2008 Young Artist Scholarship Competition will award a $1,000 scholarship to a central Illinois area high school senior who will enroll in college or university to continue musical studies. Applicants will need to submit an audition tape or CD and be prepared to audition. Applications must be received by March 29, 2008.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program offers four-year scholarships ranging from $4000 to $20,000 awarded by the Coca-Cola Company based upon a number of factors, with special emphasis on character, leadership in school, civic, and other extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors. Paper applications are no longer available. All applicants MUST register online at www.coca-colascholars.org. Deadline for application is October 31.
The Cullom Fire & EMS Association will be providing a one time, non-renewable $500 scholarship to a graduating Tri-Point senior who will be pursuing a career in public service (firefighter, EMT, Medicine, Telecommunicator, criminal justice, politics, etc.). Applications are due in the office by May 15, 2008.
The Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative is announcing its “Youth to Washington” Scholarship program. Two high school seniors will each receive a $1,000 scholarship and a weeklong expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The applicants must be seniors whose parents are members of Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative. The application is available at http://www.eiec.org/Community/comm._scholarship.htm. The application deadline is February 29, 2008.
The Elks National Foundation’s annual “Most Valuable Student” scholarship contest will award 4-year scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year to any student in the graduating class of a high school (applicants do not need to have any relationship to Elk members). Applicants will be judged on financial need, leadership, and scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance office or at www.elks.org. Applications must be submitted by January 11, 2008.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago awards three $1,000 scholarships to students with epilepsy. An application, essay, two letter of recommendation, doctor’s statement verifying the diagnosis of epilepsy or a seizure disorder, personal statement and resume are required for submission. The Deadline is May 15, 2008.
Fifth Third Bank will be awarding ten $530 scholarships. To enter, students need simply submit a form online at: www.53EducationLending.com/TheRoad.
The Ford County Historical Society is offering the Dr. Wilbur W. Sauer History Scholarship. Applicants must live in Ford County and be a senior in high school; however, attendance may be in a school outside of Ford County, and have completed two years of history classes. Applicants will be judged on academic achievement, participation in school and community activities, citizenship, leadership, and a desire for higher education. The deadline for application is March 31, 2008.
The Ford-Iroquois 4-H Bankers Scholarship will be awarded to a 4-H member in Ford or Iroquois County for the past 5 years including the current 4-H year, and have exhibited at the 2007 4-H Show in Melvin or Crescent City. The deadline for application is April 18, 2008.
The Gary Merle Harford Scholarship will be awarded to a Tri-Point senior, who lives in Piper City. The recipient will be a senior who will be attending a 4-year college and have at least a “B” average in the last academic year. Judging criteria will also involve an essay detailing reasons for consideration. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2008.
The Gates Millennium Undergraduate Scholars Program provides full tuition scholarships for low-income minority students either graduating from high school or a college student continuing college courses. Applicants must have at least a 3.3 GPA and demonstrate community involvement. Although there are no restrictions on major, nominators are asked to consider academic performance in math and sciences. The application deadline is January 11, 2008.
The General Assembly Scholarship if you are enrolled at an Illinois four-year, state-supported college and meet the eligibility criteria set by your legislative member. Contact the General Assembly member from your district for more information. Applications are available from your state representative or the senator in your district.
The Grant Program for Dependents of Police, Fire, or Correctional Officers provides payment towards tuition for the children of Illinois police/fire/correctional officers who were killed or at least 90 percent disabled in the line of duty. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due October 1, 2007.
The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society for their scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum 2.00 GPA, involvement in co-curricular and community service activities, and an adjusted gross family income of below $50,000. Students interested in applying must submit an application online at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. Deadline for application is October 30.
In 2008, the Illinois Electric Cooperative Memorial Scholarship Fund will award seven $1,250 scholarships to Illinois high school seniors. Four scholarships will be awarded to students who are the sons or daughters of an Illinois electric cooperative member receiving service from the cooperative at the time the scholarship application is submitted. A fifth scholarship will be awarded to a student who is the son or daughter of an Illinois electric cooperative employee or director. The sixth and seventh scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who will be enrolling at a two-year Illinois community college and are sons and daughters of Illinois electric cooperative members. The Illinois Division of Sons of the Confederate Veterans Society is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior, male or female, who resides in Illinois and will be enrolling in the fall at a community college, college, or university. Student must be a descendant of a male who served honorably in the army, navy, judicial, executive, or civil service of the confederate states of America. Application, essay, and other required documentation are to be submitted to the Illinois society by March 15, 2008.
The Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association Education Foundations will be awarding scholarships between $500 and $2,00 to students who plan to pursue a degree in lumber and building materials or an allied field. Applications are due April 1, 2008.
Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship Program awards of $500 and $1,000 are open to students maintaining at least a 2.00 GPA and demonstrating financial need. Applications may be found at www.ioof-il.org. The deadline for application is March 1, 2008.
The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association will be awarding 105 scholarships throughout the state of Illinois for the amount of $500. Scholarships are to be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the state, and students must be enrolled as full-time students during the school year. Applications are available at www.ilsheriff.org. Return all documentation to the sheriff’s office in the county of your permanent residence by March 14, 2008.
Illinois Valley Cellular will award a graduating senior a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving applicant. The deadline for application is March 15, 2008.
Susan Komen Breast Cancer College Scholarship worth up to $10,000 is offered to students who have lost a parent to breast cancer and intend to attend a state supported college or university in Illinois. Award is based upon academic achievement, community service, and demonstrated leadership ability. An application, letters of recommendation, and two essays are required. Information and application are available at www.komen.org.
The family of Christopher and Michael Leadingham will provide the Leadingham Memorial Scholarship to a Tri-Point senior who has displayed a strong desire to learn and has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), mental or physical disability, and / or other special need. The award will be based upon grades through the 3rd quarter of the student’s senior year and a short essay. Applications are available in the guidance office. The deadline for applications will be set for a date in the beginning of May.
Lincolnland Legends and Illinois Dollars for Scholars offers $3,000 scholarships for a high school junior or senior who nominates a business and community leader in the form of an essay. The deadline for applications is December 3, 2007.
The McKelvey
Foundation offers scholarships to seniors who have
demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their
own business while in high school. Scholarship are worth up to
$10,000 per academic year for 4 years and an additional $2,500 for
a summer abroad program. Applicants must own and operate a genuine
business (non-profits are eligible) and have at least one employee,
even if only part-time and complete the on-line application by the

for application is January 31.
The Outstanding Students of America scholarships for $1,000 may be
available for students who are participative in community/school
involvement and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applications are

The Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship for $500 is open to all students. Awards are made through local chapters. The deadline for application is January 15, 2008.
Michelle’s Bridal Shoppe will award 2 $500 scholarships to customers between Jan 2 and May 3.
The National Federation of the Blind offers monetary awards to blind students who will be attending an accredited postsecondary program of education. More information is available at www.nfbofillinois.org.
The Outstanding Students of America scholarships for $1,000 may be available for students who are participative in community/school involvement and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applications are available at www.outstandingstudentsofamerica.com and are due by October 10, 2007.
The National Peace Essay Contest awards a student from each state $1,000 based on written essays concerning natural resources and world conflicts. Visit www.usip.org for more information. Deadline for application is February 1, 2008.
The Prudent Spirit of Community Awards recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary community service. Ten state honorees are chosen and receive $1,000 (national honorees receive $5,000). Apply online at www.prudential.com/spirit and submit to the office by October 31, 2007.
The Scholarship Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year award Program provides $7,500 scholarships for high school seniors. Judging is based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service and what role milk plays in their success. Applications and official rules are available online at sammy.bodybymilk.com until March 7, 2008.
State Farm Holiday Classic Scholarship is offering four scholarships to student-athletes ranging from $500 to $1,000. Student-athletes who participated in the tournament may apply by completing an application, submitting an essay, their transcript, and a letter from their basketball coach verifying that they have or will earn a varsity letter in basketball. Information and applications are available in the Counseling Center or at www.theclassic.org. The deadline for application is March 31, 2008.
The Swiss Benevolent Society offers tuition only scholarships, ranging from $750 to $2,500, is presented to students who either a Swiss national or of Swiss descent (with documents of proof) who have a minimum ACT composite score of 26. An application, essay, and Swiss descent documentation form are required. Information and applications are available in the Counseling Center or by visiting www.sbschicago.org/education.html. The deadline for application is April 1, 2008.
Every year, Toyota awards 100 college
scholarships - valued at $10,000 and $20,000 - over the course of
four years, to remarkable high school seniors. Administered by the
Educational Testing Service, high schools nationwide nominate one

The United States Senate Youth Program will select two students from each state to travel to Washington D.C. to be immersed in Washington activities the week on March 1-8, 2008. Selected students will receive a Hearst Scholarship of $5,000. To be eligible candidates must be serving in one of the following capacities: class president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, student council representative, or student representative selected to district, regional, or state-level civic or educational organization. The Wal-Mart Foundation offers different scholarships to employees, children of employees, and non-employees who reside in a Wal-Mart service area. Visit www.walmartfoundation.org for more information. Deadline for application is January 14, 2008.
The Sam Walton Community Scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at a college or university. Applications are available at www.walmartfoundation.org. The deadline for entry is a postmark of January 14, 2008.
The Janie Wilken Memorial Scholarship is available to a student who has been a three (3) year Section 10 FFA member and / or a five (5) year 4-H member in Ford or Iroquois County 4-H club.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Program honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership. High school seniors who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one of the 33 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools are invited to apply for the award. Apply online at www.wendysheisman.com. Applications must be completed and reviewed by a high school representative no later than October 1, 2007.
The US Bank will award up to thirty $1,000 to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two- or four-year colleges full-time next fall. Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process. Students can apply online by visiting usbank.com/studentbanking. Scholarship applications will be accepted from October through February.
The Zonta Club of Pontiac is awarding a $500 scholarship to a deserving senior from Livingston County. Selection will be based on financial need, volunteer involvement, and scholastic achievement. Applications are due April 15, 2008.
Schoarships and Awards Based on Major
Agriculture
Ameren
Illinois will award one, annually renewable, $2,500
scholarship every year to a minority graduating, high school senior
accepted to an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university.
Scholarship recipients must be majoring in an engineering
discipline, be a permanent resident within Ameren Illinois
distribution service, and earn a minimum GPA of 2.67 / 4.0 scale.
The deadline for application is April 7, 2008.
Excellence in
Agriculture Scholarship Program is distributed by the Office
of the State Treasurer and includes ten $2,500 scholarships. They
are given to high school seniors planning to major in an
agriculture-related field and are accepted for enrollment at a two-
or four-year college or university in Illinois. Applications are
available at www.treasurer.il.gov.
Deadline for application is May 15, 2008.
The Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau Foundation offers General Scholarships worth up to $4,000 and the Skog Family Trust Memorial Scholarship worth up to $1,250 to a graduating senior. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be a member or a child of a member of the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau and plan to enroll at a post-secondary school to study in an agriculture related field. The deadline for application is April 1, 2008.
1st Farm Credit Services is pleased to offer the “At the Heart of a Growing America” Scholarship Program. The Program will provide 23 individual $1,000 scholarships within the 42-county service territory. Graduating seniors who have been accepted into an agriculture-related curriculum at a university, college, or community college are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on academic achievement, community and agricultural youth involvement and brief essays. Applications are available online at www.usfarmcredit.com/aboutus/1st/scholarships.asp. Applications are due no later than February 15, 2008.
The IAA Foundation is awarding several scholarships for students who will major in agriculture, agribusiness, or an agriculture-related course of study in college. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional scholastic ability and/or financial need. Applicants must be either a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, spouse or the member’s child. Students may apply for as many as they wish, but are limited to receiving one. Additional information is available at www.iaafoundation.org. The deadline for application is February 1, 2008.
The Kankakee County Farm Bureau is offering scholarships in the amount of $750 to high school seniors who are residents of Kankakee County. Applicants must also have been accepted into a post-secondary school with an agriculture related field of study. Award criteria include demonstrated interest in agriculture and agribusiness, character and personality, academic performance and honors, and financial need. Applications must be received by March 31, 2008.
The Livingston County
Soil and Water Conservation District is offering the George
McKibben Memorial Scholarship for College juniors or seniors
enrolled in an agricultural seeking degree. Applications can be
downloaded at www.aiswcd.org/Programs/awards.htm.
Applications are due by April 18, 2008.
The Livingston County Farm Bureau Foundation Board will be providing scholarships up to $1,500 for qualified students pursuing careers in agriculture or ag-related fields. An Applicant must be a member or a dependent of a member in good standing with Livingston County Farm Bureau. Selection will be based on a composite grade of academics, school involvement, church and community activities, community and industry service, and financial need. Qualified students must complete an application and return it to the Farm Bureau Foundation office at 901 W. Howard ST., PO Box 410, Pontiac, Il 61764, no later than February 28, 2008.
The Monsanto Company is offering one-hundred $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field. Applications are available at www.monsanto.com or www.ffa.org. Applications must be submitted by February 15, 2008.
Business
The Kathryn
G. Hansen Secretariat Scholarship is awarded to students
planning to pursue higher education degrees in the office
professional, secretarial, or business-related fields at any
university in the state of Illinois. The amount is for $500.
Interested students should submit a completed application, two
letters of recommendation, and their most recent transcript.

The postmark deadline for receipt of application materials is
February 15, 2008.
The National Defense Transportation Association will award four scholarships of $2,000 – 2,500 to students who reside in Illinois or Missouri. Priority will be given to students in degree programs related to business, transportation logistics, or physical distribution. One award is set aside for immediate family of active members of the Scott / St. Louis Chapter. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.
Education
The Golden
Apple Scholars Program recruits talented high school
students who want to become teachers. Recipients receive $2500 per
year for your years and attend four residential Summer Institutes.
Candidates must agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school
of need. Students interested in teaching especially in the areas of
bilingual education, early childhood, special education, science,
math, music, physical education, reading, and English should visit
the guidance office for nomination information. Nominations will
be accepted through November 30, 2007.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society offers two $200 recruitment grants to senior women who plan to enter the field of education. Applications should be postmarked by December 15, 2007.
Phi Delta Kappa International annually awards scholarships to perspective educators who have a connection to PDK. Eligible students include high school seniors who intend to major in education and who are a members of a PDK sponsored FEA club at their high school; are the children or grandchildren of a Kappan in good standing; have one of their reference letters written by a Kappan in good standing; or whose application is selected to represent the PDK chapter in their area. Submission deadline is February 1, 2008.
The Illinois PTA will award scholarships for $1,000 and $500 in each of Illinois PTA’s 19 Districts to graduating seniors who plan to enter the field of education or an education related degree program. To be eligible for consideration students need to be in the upper 25% of their graduating class. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2008.
Engineering/Science
The American Nuclear Society Incoming Freshman Scholarships are awarded to graduating high-school seniors who have enrolled, full-time, in college courses and are pursuing a degree in nuclear engineering or have the intent to pursue a degree in nuclear engineering. ANS will give a maximum of four Incoming Freshman Scholarships annually for $1,000. The Scholarships will be awarded based on an applicant's high school academic achievement, freshman college courses enrolled in, quality and content of 500-word essay, letters of recommendation by counselors and/or teachers, and other information. To apply for the ANS Incoming Freshman Scholarship, complete the application at www.ans.org and return it with appropriate documents by April 1, 2008.
The Illinois Chemical Education Foundation invites future chemists, chemical engineers, environmental engineers or high school chemistry teachers to apply for a $2,000 scholarship for a post-secondary educational institution. Applicants will be evaluated on rank in high school class, ACT/SAT/PSAT scores, two letters of recommendation from teachers, including one science teacher, a one page essay on “How the study of chemistry will impact the student’s future and / or chosen career,” and list of extracurricular activities. Materials must be submitted by March 7, 2008
SAE Engineering Scholarships will be available to high school seniors who are interested in studying engineering or a related science. These scholarships are made possible by the support of the corporate and academic communities. Applications are accepted from September 1 - December 1 of the student's senior year.
The Illinois Society of Professional Engineers offers scholarships to Illinois students enrolled in ABET accredited engineering programs. Visit http://www.illinoisengineer.com/StudentsAndYouth.asp for more information. Deadlines for all applications are January 31.
The Society of Exploration Geophysics provides awards for freshmen pursuing careers in geophysics, physics, mathematics and / or geology. The awards range from $500 to $3,000. Visit www.seg.org for more information. The deadline for application is February 1, 2008.
The Society of Women Engineers provides scholarships worth up to $5,000 open to women in engineering including incoming freshmen admitted to a SWE approved school. Visit www.swe.org for more information. The deadline for application is February 1, 2008.
Medical / Health Care
BroMenn medical Center offers scholarships including reimbursement for tuition, fees, and books for students enrolled in the programs listed below. You do not need to be a BroMenn employee. If selected, the recipient agrees to assume a full-time position with BroMenn Healthcare within 30 days of successful completion of degree. work agreement. Must be a healthcare related degree and in their
final year of college.
The Nursing Education Scholarship Program provides assistance to individuals pursuing a certificate in practical nursing, an associate degree in nursing, a hospital-based nursing diploma, a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a graduate degree in nursing. Recipients pursuing a graduate degree are required to teach nursing in Illinois. There is an obligation associated with the scholarship that can be filled by working in Illinois as a registered professional nurse or a licensed practical nurse, providing direct patient care; or as a nurse educator in the case of a graduate degree student. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of
scholarships to be awarded, priority in awarding scholarships will
be given to students who:
o Have the greatest financial need per the Student Aid Report
o Are full-time or closest to full-time students
o Have the fewest number of credit hours remaining to complete

The Illinois AMVETS Sad Sacks Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to an Illinois high school senior who has been accepted into a nursing program. The recipient will prove satisfactory in academic record, character, interest and activity record, and financial need. All applications should be postmarked by March 1, 2008.

Stokes
Educational Scholarship Program – With the Stokes Program,
you work during the summer at NSA in areas related to your course
of study. If you are selected as a program participant, you are
required to work in your area of study for NSA after your college
graduation for at least one-and-one-half times the length of study.
The National Security Agency through this program will pay tuition
and book costs at the college of your choice in return for your
employment at the NSA for a length of 1½ times the length of study
in college. Recipients will attend school full-time the work during
the summer for the NSA in areas that are related to their course of
study. Applicants must have a minimum 3.00 GPA and 25 ACT score.
Applicants may also choose a full-time major at college in any of
the following areas: Computer Science, Electrical or Computer
Engineering, Languages, or Mathematics. Application must be
