Math and Science Olympics

By Ryan, 7th Grade Computer Class Student

April 25, 2008

On Wednesday, March 19, 2008 the first Math and Science Olympics was held at Tri-Point Jr. High. It was a lot of fun for everyone. They had 5 different events. The first event was Pirate Ships. You were given a piece of tin foil, duct tape, and masking tape. You had to make a ship or barge. Then they had to put as many pennies as possible on the barge or ship. The first place winners were Josh and Zach.

The second event was Sail Cars and you made a car and raced. The first place winners for that were Chris and Matt.

The third event was Stomp Rockets. You were given a garden hose, pipe, a bottle, duct tape, two pieces of paper, and masking tape. You had to put it all together and make a little rocket that you would shoot out of the bottle. It was very tough for some kids. The first place group was Jake and Alex. We also did Tangrams but we didn’t have any first place winners because we ran out of time.

After lunch we had the Math and Science Bowl. In these events all you had to do was use your brain. You were asked many questions and just like Scholastic Bowl you use a buzzer and click in if you know the answer. We did this in different grade groups to make it fair. The first place winners for the 6th Grade Math Bowl were Cullen and Alex. The first place winners for 7th Grade were Zach and Josh. Last, but not least, were the 8th grade winners. They were Troy and Brody. They all went against each other in a final face off for the Best of the Best in math. The winners of that were Zach and Josh.

Finally the 8th grade winners were Mitchell, and Aaron. The final winners of the Science Bowl were Josh and Zach. It was a very fun day and all the kids had a blast!
