Sectional Meet in Rantoul

Jr. High Track Sectional and State Meets

By Matt M. 8th grade computer class student

May 14, 2008

It’s that time of year again when Tri-Point Jr. High Track athletes compete at Sectionals and the State track meet. Coach Hills and Coach Edwards should be very proud of how their team competed at those two track meets and the rest of the season.

At Sectionals we had 10 people qualify for State and a few more came extremely close. The 7th grade State qualifiers were Rachael K in the 800 meter run, Kenzie K in the 400 meter dash, and Jordan T in the 110 meter hurdles. There were also a few who came very close to making it and that includes Lindsey B made the finals in long jump and barely missed it, the girls 4x100 and 4x400 came really close to going,

Sectional Meet, Lindsey and Kenzie's handoff

Nathan H came close in the 800 meter run, Sabrina C made the finals in the hurdles but barely missed, and Taylor R came very close to making it in the 1600 meter run.

State qualifiers for 8th grade were Bonnie B. in long jump and the 200 meter dash, defending 3rd place medal winner in the 1600 Jacob R. made State in the 1600 meter run for the 3rd time, the girls' 4x400 meter relay made up of Tanya I., Brooke S., Erin L., and Bonnie B., and the boys' 4x100 meter relay made up by Matt M., Dylan J., Jacob R., and 7th grader Jordan T. There were also a few 8th graders who almost made it. They were Troy B. in the 400 meter dash, Chris B. in shot put and discus, and the boys' 4x400 meter relay.

At State both relays came in 32nd place, Bonnie came in 29th in long jump and 34th in the 200 meter dash, Kenzie got 26th in the 400 meter dash, Rachael got 20th in the 800 meter run, Jordan got 17th in the 110 meter hurdles and missed the semifinals by only one person, and Jacob got 12th in the 1600 and ran an amazing 5:05. Everyone who ran in the meet made it in at least the top 40 in the whole state!!!

They and everyone else on the track team including Coach Edwards and Coach Hills deserve a lot of credit for their effort and accomplishments.
