Welcome to the Superintendent’s News article for December 2009.
First, congratulations to the following upper elementary school and junior high school students who were winners in the recent Tri-Point Upper Elementary/Junior High School Art Contest. The upper elementary school art contest winners were: Spencer Steidinger, Michael LeClair, Jimmy Haag, Leanne Hoover, Nick Thorson, and Jacob Bruner. The Student Choice Awards went to: Stephanie Keir and Nick Kelley. Stephanie and Nick received art supplies as their prizes. The junior high school art contest winners were: Katy Haag, Brad Mosier, Jazmyn Morrison, Jared Haeme, Emmalie Davidson, Ben Sievert, Wade Stephens, and Josh Thorson. Breann Watenpaugh and Josh Harstick were the Student Choice Award winners. All of these students earned a trip to the Art Institute in Chicago and were accompanied by the members of the school Art Club. Congratulations to each of these students on their awards and achievements as artists.
Second, congratulations to Bryant Movern, a junior at Tri-Point High School. Bryant was named the student-of-the month at the Livingston Area Vocational Center for the month of November. Bryant was honored for his outstanding attitude, interest in the vocational program, superior class participation, and excellent work traits. Way to go Bryant.
Third, congratulations to Danny Olson. Danny, a junior on the Tri-Point High School boys' basketball team, set a new record for most points scored at the recent Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley Thanksgiving basketball tournament. Danny tallied one-hundred six points during the four game set. The previous tournament record for most points had stood for over thirty years. In addition, the Tri-Point boys' basketball team finished second in the tournament. Congratulations to Danny and the members of the Tri-Point High School boys’ basketball team on their accomplishments.
Fourth, please note that the school board meeting for January 2010 will be held at the fire station in Cabery. The meeting date and time are Monday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m. The school board is holding its' meetings in satellite locations over the next four months in order to be more accessible to school district residents. The February school board meeting will be at the high school in Cullom.
Fifth, here are some upcoming dates of importance for the school district:
Saturday, December 19, 2009 to Sunday, January 3, 2010 – Christmas Break
Monday, January 4, 2010 – Teacher In-service day. No student attendance.
Tuesday, January 5, 2010 – Students return to school.
Monday, January 11, 2010 – School Board Meeting, 7:00 p.m., Cabery Fire Station
Monday, January 18, 2010 – No school, Martin Luther King's Birthday
