Positive Behavior Support Will Be Initiated This School Year

PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention Support is a Hit at Tri-Point Upper Elementary / Junior High

by Duane Hitchens

This year the Tri-Point school district has adopted a new behavior program.  The new program is called PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support.  While the name of the program may be new, the behavior expectations are the same.

PBIS allows students more opportunities to be recognized for their positive behavior at school.  Students have the opportunities to earn rewards and attend school celebrations.  A few examples of rewards may include treats, sitting in the teacher’s chair, or gift cards.  School celebrations are for all students who meet the required positive expectations set by Tri-Point.  They are a time for students to enjoy an hour of monitored fun, for example, sitting with friends watching a movie and eating popcorn.

PBIS also allows parents / guardians and teachers to have open communication about what is expected in all areas of the school.  Our school’s behavioral expectations centers on the ideas of respect, responsibility, and safety.  Twice during the school year, teachers will spend time going over these expectations with the students.  Parents / Guardians are encouraged to adapt this program for their home, as well.

Even though the school district assumes a leading role in the PBIS program, its success is dependent upon the support of parents, local business, and the surrounding community.

The district would like to thank you for taking the time to read about our new program and for supporting us in any way you can.  Without your continued support our program would not be possible.
