Welcome to the Superintendent’s News article for November 2009.
First, congratulations to Tyler Loschen, a senior at Tri-Point High School and FFA member. Tyler was named the nation winner of the Diversified Crop Production - Entrepreneurship Proficiency award program at the 82nd National FFA convention in late October. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel in the field of agriculture. Tyler's crop enterprise project began his freshman year with renting 20 acres and has since expanded to 180 acres. Tyler grew corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and grass hay for his Diversified Crop Project. Tyler is the son of Gary and Diana Loschen of rural Kempton. Diana Loschen is the FFA chapter advisor for Tri-Point High School Congratulations Tyler.
Second, congratulations to Joan Kane a first grade teacher at Tri-Point Elementary School in Kempton. Joan was recently inducted into the Illinois State University College of Education Hall of Fame. This honor is bestowed upon College of Education graduates of distinction. Honorees are nominated by peers, faculty, or others who can attest to the quality of the individual's contributions to education. Joan's name will be added to the Hall of Fame plaques that are on permanent display at the College of Education. Congratulations Joan.
Third, congratulations to Katie Kurtenbach, a senior at Tri-Point High School. Katie was named the student-of-the-month for October by the Livingston Area Career Center. Katie was nominated by Diana Loschen. Diana noted Katie's outstanding attitude and personal traits. Diana added that Katie's classroom work is meticulous and Katie is a great student.
Congratulations Katie.
Fourth, the school district is continuing to make progress with the ongoing health/life safety projects. The roof replacement work has been completed at the Kempton West building and the high school building in Cullom. Currently, the electrical mains are being replaced at both school buildings in Kempton and Cullom. The electrical work will be completed in early January. More updates about the school district’s construction projects will be available as they move forward. The health/life safety work has improved the school district’s facilities and made them safer and more pleasant for the students and staff members.
Fifth, below is a list of upcoming dates of importance for the school district:
Wednesday, November 25th: 2:10 p.m. dismissal.
Thursday, November 26th: No school, Thanksgiving.
Friday, November 27th: No school, Thanksgiving break.
Monday, November 30th: School resumes.
Wednesday, December 9th: High School Holiday Band/Chorus Concert in Cullom, TBA.
Thursday, December 10th: Elementary School Holiday Program, TBA.
Monday, December 14th: School Board Meeting in Kempton, 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, December 15th: 2:10 p.m. dismissal, School Improvement Meeting
Tuesday, December 15th: Upper Elementary/Junior High School Holiday Program in Piper City, TBA.
Friday, December 18th: 2:10 p.m. dismissal, Holiday break. School resumes on Tuesday, January 5th.
