Welcome! This class is about YOU and the CHOICES you make!
Course Description: This class is a comprehensive introduction of Health/Wellness principles designed for the promotion of healthy life-choices. The purpose of this course is to give every student the opportunity to learn and practice informed self-direction in matters of personal health/wellness.
Supplies: All students are expected to bring:
1. Health book everyday (unless told specifically by the teacher).
2. A notebook, binder, folder, or anything that has paper.
3. Something to write with everyday (pencil and/or black/blue pen).
4. Assignment book/ Planner/ Pass book.
** You will NOT be allowed to return to your locker for items you have forgotten.
Homework/Tests/Quizzes:
1. Do your homework (especially if asked to read the night before). It is my policy to strongly discourage work from being turned in late, in an attempt to prevent bad habits from forming now and in the future. It is the student’s responsibility to remain updated and turn in work on time. Late work will be accepted under the following guidelines:
a. 1 day late … maximum grade achievable = 80%
b. 2 days late ……………………………… = 70%
c. 3 days late ……………………………… = no longer accepted!!
*** Remember, some points are better than none.***
While emergencies arise, and will be handled individually, students should plan ahead and not wait until the last minute to complete assignments. Things such as printer failure, empty ink cartridge, my dog ate my homework, etc… will not be acceptable excuses. Make sure to PLAN AHEAD!!!
2. Tests will consist of multiple choices, true/false, fill in the blank, short answer, and possibly essay. Tests will NOT be made up during class. Students need to make appointments with me to make the test up before or after school. If you miss the day before a test, you are still required to take the test on the day scheduled.
3. Quizzes may be given:
a. The day after homework reading assignment (so make sure you read).
b. At the end of the period (make sure you’re paying attention).
c. At the end of every section.
These quizzes should be easy points and are to help you retain the knowledge learned in class.
Grading Policy: Your overall class grade will come from grades earned in the following categories:
TESTS: 50%
QUIZZES / ASSIGNMENTS: 30%
PARTICIPATION: 10%
FINAL EXAM: 10%

GOOD health comes from making GOOD choices!
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s):
In recent years, the term health has acquired a much greater significance. It no longer means simply an absence of sickness but refers the well-being of the body, of the mind, and of relationships among people. The word wellness is used for this comprehensive concept of health.
Every day student’s are confronted with important decisions about how to maintain their health. They need to be well-informed enough to make decisions. They must also learn to act on this knowledge. To achieve this goal, I will teach and reinforce life skills that students will need to help weigh options and to make responsible decisions that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Family involvement is a vital part of this health education process. While studying health, your student may come to you with questions or seek advice. These are opportunities for you to share in your teen’s growth and development at a crucial time in his or her life. With your support, students can make the right choices to prepare for a brighter and healthier future.
If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at coxjt@tripoint.k12.il.us and I will respond a soon as possible.
To everyone’s good health,
Mr. Justin Cox
