Here is an update by school building about the district’s
health/life safety projects.
Kempton East/West: The tuck pointing has been completed at each
of these buildings and the window installation project is almost
finished at both schools. At the East building protective
screens will be installed over the concession stand windows and
some of the windows at the West building still need to be trimmed
and/or caulked. The installation of the new roof at the
Kempton West building was completed on Wednesday, September 16th.
The new gutters and downspouts will be installed at the
Kempton West and Kempton East buildings in the next two to three
weeks.
Piper City: The tuck pointing has been completed and all of the
new windows have been installed. Finish work to be completed
includes caulking some of the new windows and the installation of
metal weatherproofing strips between the windows.
Cullom: The building has been tuck pointed and all of the new windows have been installed. There is some exterior and interior trim work to be completed on the windows. The installation of the new roofing over the library was completed on Friday, September 18th.
All of the finishing work for the window installation project will be completed by the end of September.
At the September school board meeting the board accepted a bid from St. Charles Union Electric for replacing the electrical mains at the Kempton East and West buildings and the high school in Cullom. More information will be available when a starting date is set for this project. The new electrical mains will insure that each school has the electrical capacity to meet the energy needs in each building. The bid opening for this project will be on Thursday, September 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the school district’s Central Office in Kempton. The electrical main at the Piper City building will be replaced at a later date.
The health/life safety projects that have been completed to-date have improved each of the school buildings. The buildings now provide a more pleasant learning environment for the students and staff members, have improved energy efficiency, and the appearance of each building has been updated. The health/life safety work will continue over the next two years and will be completed by the summer of 2011.
Another update on the health/life safety projects will be posted
in the near future.
