MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF TRI-POINT SCHOOL DISTRICT 6J

March 16, 2022

 

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

President Cherie Smolkovich called the Board of Education of Tri-Point Schools District 6J to order at 7:00 pm in the board room of the lower elementary building in Kempton, Illinois.  The following members of the Board of Education were present: Cherie Smolkovich – President, Ted Conkling – Vice President, Jason Angus – Secretary, Kristine Haag – Treasurer,  Terry Hughes, Sharon Mogged and Catherine Weber.   Also present were District Superintendent, Jeff Bryan, High School Principal, Kellee Hill, JR High Principal, Jay Bennett and Lower Elementary Asst. Principal, Cara Anderson.

 

PRESENTATIONS

Oral and written reports were presented by each building administrator.  Discussions centered around the standardized testing programs that would take place in late March and early April.  Further discussions were had with regards to summer school programs and participation by students that have fallen behind due to Covid-19 related circumstances. 

Superintendent Jeff Bryan gave a detailed report concerning the financial position of the district as compared to one year ago.  The district has a much improved financial picture due in part to the Federal funds and grants for the past year.

 

CONSENT AGENDA

Kristine Haag moved and Ted Conkling seconded to approve the consent agenda consisting of the minutes of the regular meeting dated February 16, 2022, the treasures report dated February 28, 2022 and the accounts payable dated February 28, 2022.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Technology Committee: 

            The Technology Committee met on Monday, March 7, 2022 to discuss options for new website hosting, automated Alert Systems and mobile phone Apps.  The committee continues to meet with vendors and entertain pricing and service fee options from multiple sources.

Athletic Committee:

            The Athletic Committee met on Monday, March 7, 2022 to discuss the options related to resurfacing the athletic track at the JR High campus in Piper City.  Quotes and estimates are still being sought and collected.  Lee Farms Excavating has developed an estimate.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

Ted Conkling moved and Catherine Weber seconded to adopt option A of the School Calendar proposal for the 2022-2023 school year.

NEW BUSINESS

Sharon Mogged moved and Kristine Haag seconded to approve submitting a Legislative Waiver for Full Day School Improvement Days.

Jason Angus  moved and Terry Hughes seconded to approve submitting the E-Learning Plant to the Illinois State Board of Education.

Kristine Haag moved and Terry Hughes seconded to renew the membership of Tri-Point High School in IHSA for the 2022-2023 school year.

Catherine Weber moved and Ted Conkling seconded to approve the Senior Trip as presented.

Jason Angus moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to accept the bid from NES for Asbestos Abatement at the Upper Elementary/JR High at a cost of $27,355.00

Catherine Weber moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to advertise and issue a bid proposal for Junior High Restroom Renovations.

Ted Conkling moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to approve track resurfacing at a cost not to exceed $36,000.00

Kristine Haag moved and Cherie Smolkovich seconded to approve the 2022-2023 Consolidated District Plan.

Jason Angus moved and Ted Conkling seconded to approve May 21, 2023 as Graduation Day for the Class of 2023.

Jason Angus moved and Ted Conkling seconded to go into closed session at 9:09 pm for the: A. appointment, employment, discipline, performance of specific employees; in accordance with 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) and (1), (2) and (3) of the Illinois Open Meeting Act.

Jason Angus moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to accept the resignation of Ben Morris effective at the end of the 2021-2022 School Year.

Jason Angus moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to employ Robert Allen as Upper Elementary/Junior High Custodian.

Jason Angus moved and Sharon Mogged seconded to re-employ 3rd year teachers Annie Galindo, Josh Evans, Brendan Elens, Anita Platz, Aimee Wright and Ana Vierra for the 2022-2023 School Year.

Jason Angus moved and Catherine Weber seconded to acknowledge the legislative granting of tenure to 4th year teachers John Allhands and Scott Saffer for the 2022-2023 School Year.

Cherie Smolkovich moved and Ted Conkling seconded to adjourn the meeting at 9:25 pm.
