Dear Parents & Guardians, 9/11/25
Tri-Point Upper Elementary and Junior High will be screening students for social-emotional and behavioral concerns September 29th – October 10th. This will be a comprehensive, preventative approach to identifying and addressing students’ needs early. (before possible concerns become severe). All students are invited to participate in the screening. For elementary students, teachers will complete a screener about each student. Junior high and high school students will complete the screener independently. The school social worker will use the information provided to identify students who may benefit from additional support services.
The screening will indicate signs of stress, sadness, worry, anger, loneliness, irritability, motivation, and attention difficulties. If your student presents an elevated score, the school social worker may meet with them to gather more information to determine if school-based supports would be beneficial. This may include, participating in a skill building group or individual counseling. Parents will be contacted regarding any services that are recommended and asked for your written permission before your student actually begins receiving any services.
*If you have questions, please contact the school office at (815)-686-2247.
If you DO NOT consent for your student to participate in this screening, please sign and return to the school by SEPTEMBER 22, 2025. If an opt out form is not completed and returned students will participate in the screening.

Sam Schmale
Principal

Next Thursday, September 18th, Tri-Point Upper Elementary/Junior High School will be practicing our Law Enforcement Drill. All schools are required by the State of Illinois to participate in a school intruder drill with the assistance of local law enforcement. This drill involves two parts. The first is a practice lockdown drill where students shelter in their classroom as if there was an intruder in the building. The second part would involve evacuating the building and moving to our rally point, which is the Piper City Methodist Church. As we are getting into fall weather, please remind your children to have their jackets with them.
These drills are completed taking into account the ages of our students. We understand that our students may not understand the purpose of these drills. Because of that, we take the sensibilities of our students into account and design them to be age appropriate so we do not frighten our students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Upper Elementary/Junior High office at 815-686-2247.
Thank you,
Sam Schmale
